Y.P.P.U. History
National Young People’s Progressive Union History
In the early 1930’s, the youth of the church was seeking a means of being a part of the church other than singing and attending Sunday school on Sunday mornings. The members of various temples started the discussion of establishing an auxiliary to meet the needs of the future generations. Some of the people who were instrumental in presenting before the house the new idea to start a youth auxiliary were Bro. J.W. Stuckey of Kansas City, Kansas and Sis. Jimmie Lee Miller of St. Louis, Missouri. In July 1938 at the General Assembly in Oklahoma City, the Young People’s Progressive Union (YPPU) was created. The first officers of the Y.P.P.U were:
Evang. Elizabeth Jean Cooper-President
J.W Stuckey-Vice President
Adele Cleveland-Secretary
Florence Griffin-Treasurer
The purpose of the Young People’s Progressive Union of the Church of the Living God, CWFF is to promote a cooperative spirit among the young people, to teach them the responsibility of leadership and dependability, to promote an interest in the church, provide wholesome entertainment, encourage them to attend church services, and to interest non-members in the church. The Y.P.P.U motto is “It Can Be Done and the Youth Will Do It”
